Privacy policy (English)

Last updated: 29 October 2026. AquaTome (aquatome.com) is a Vietnamese-language aquarium fish and plant guide. Contact: contact@aquatome.com.

What we process

  • Comments: the display name and text you enter, shown publicly at once if they pass automatic filters; flagged comments wait for review, and comments that break the rules are removed in daily moderation. No email, account or IP address is stored. To limit spam, a one-way hash of your IP address plus the date is kept for 24 hours.
  • Reader photos: the photo, display name and your confirmation that you took it. Your browser shrinks the photo and strips its metadata (GPS position, phone model) before sending. The original waits in private storage until the nightly automatic check (people in the photo, right species, appropriate) run on our computer with Anthropic's Claude model, which publishes a compressed copy with your name or deletes it; the original is deleted right after. No email or account; you get a private link to remove the photo at any time.
  • Spam check: the comment and photo forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, which loads on pages with those forms and processes browser signals under Cloudflare's Turnstile privacy policy.
  • Anonymous statistics: page path, referring site (if any), country, scroll depth, reading time, shop-link clicks and a random session ID held in session storage (cleared when you close the tab). No IP or identifying data; kept up to 3 months.
  • Shop links: clicks to Shopee, Lazada or Tiki are counted per day, page and product. The link passes through the ACCESSTRADE affiliate network (go.isclix.com), which records the click and may set a cookie to attribute the commission (ACCESSTRADE privacy policy). The shop's own policy applies once you reach it.
  • Hosting: Cloudflare receives IP addresses and browser data to deliver and protect the site (Cloudflare privacy policy).

Cookies and storage

  • units (local storage): your °C/cm or °F/inch choice.
  • aq_tank (local storage): the tank length, temperature and pH you enter on the home page, so the form is filled next time. Never sent anywhere.
  • aq_theme (local storage): the light or dark look you chose; without it the site follows your device. Never sent anywhere.
  • ts_sid (session storage): random session ID for anonymous statistics.
  • Google advertising cookies: see below.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of other vendors' cookies at aboutads.info. See how Google uses data from partner sites. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent first and can change their choice at any time with the “Privacy and cookie settings” button at the bottom of the page.

Videos

YouTube videos load only after you press play: the player from youtube-nocookie.com and YouTube's player-control script (youtube.com/iframe_api), used to turn on Vietnamese captions and jump to chapters. Before that only a preview image from YouTube's image server is shown.

Retention

Approved comments: while they are shown. Comments awaiting review: until approved or removed. Removed comments: deleted after 30 days. Reader photos: originals until the next moderation run (usually under a day); published photos while shown, deleted at once when you or we remove them. Spam-check hash: 24 hours. Anonymous statistics: up to 3 months.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct or delete your comments, or withdraw consent, under Vietnam's Personal Data Protection Law (2025) and Decree 356/2025/ND-CP and, where it applies, the GDPR. Because we store no email or account, include the page URL, display name and comment text in your request to contact@aquatome.com.
